About Laser Selector
Who runs this site, where the numbers come from, and what it is for.
Why this site exists
Ask a search engine which laser diode to use for a 2 km rangefinder and you get a list of shops. Ask a distributor and you get the part they carry. Neither answers the question an engineer actually has, which is: given the range, the target and the size limit, how much pulse energy do I need, and which package gets me there?
Laser Selector answers that question first, and treats the catalogue as the second step rather than the first.
What is on the site
The selector. Six questions - application, wavelength, output mode, performance, package - produce a ranked shortlist of real parts. Each result carries the reason it ranks where it does, and a route to a quote for that exact build.
The knowledge base. The range equation, peak power against pulse width and duty cycle, 905 nm against 1535 nm, APD against PIN, laser safety classes, and how to drive a pulsed diode without destroying it. The articles are written to be used in a design review, not skimmed.
The supplier platform. Every part number on this site is a real part, transcribed from a manufacturer datasheet, with the source document named on the product page. Where several qualified vendors make an equivalent part, the alternatives are listed together instead of being hidden.
Where the numbers come from
Product parameters are copied from the manufacturer datasheet for the exact part number. The document the figures were taken from is printed on every product page, and nothing is filled in by interpolation.
Range figures are derived, not measured. They come from the range equation in the knowledge base under a fixed set of assumptions - a matched-filter receiver, a 36 mm receive aperture, 90 % optical efficiency and a stated target reflectance - and they are labelled as estimates wherever they appear, with the assumptions printed next to them. Your optics, your target and your detector will move the answer, which is why the derivation is published rather than the number alone.
Prices and lead times are deliberately not published. Availability changes faster than a static page can follow, so those come from an engineer.
What this site does not do
- It does not take orders. There is no cart, and no part is sold at a retail price here.
- It does not publish a parameter it cannot source, and it does not guess at a part that does not exist.
- It does not rank by margin. Ranking is by fit to the constraints you entered.
Who runs it
Laser Selector is operated by Leizu Photoelectric (Shenzhen Leierte Photoelectric Technology and Hebei Leizu Photoelectric Technology), a manufacturer of 905 nm pulsed laser diodes, 1535 nm eye-safe transmitters, fibre-coupled modules and APD receivers. We are therefore not a neutral party, and we say so: parts from our own production are in the catalogue, and so are third-party emitters and receivers that we package, test and distribute. Where both exist, both are shown.
Disclosing the operator seemed better than the alternative, which is an anonymous site that looks neutral while being paid for listings.
Corrections
If a parameter here is wrong, that is a bug. Send the part number, the parameter and the datasheet page, and it will be corrected with the source named.
